ABOUT THE PROJECT
The PAUK pilot project for green infrastructure development (Connecting Alternative Urban Corridors) was conceived as an urban network linking four key public and community nodes in Buševec (SD Polet, the Community Centre, Trg seljačke sloge and the branch primary school) through a system of corridors, so that green elements, walking and cycling connections, and public spaces function as one coherent whole.
In practice, the project delivers everyday improvements: upgraded sports grounds with energy-efficient lighting, planting of native trees and biodiversity elements, greening alongside sidewalks and other “grey” infrastructure, and interventions around the Community Centre that raise the standard of public space through green parking, shaded gathering areas and urban furniture.
EU ALIGNMENT AND PROJECT LOGIC
The EU logic of PAUK is clear: green infrastructure is treated as a measurable system that simultaneously improves the quality of public space, strengthens resilience to climate extremes and encourages active mobility. This is reflected in solutions that combine permeable surfaces and shade (such as grass grids and a green pergola), systematic greening of corridors and nodes, and targeted biodiversity gains through native species and supporting elements.
A second key is inclusion and accessibility built into the design: barrier-free access (including a vertical lifting platform at the Community Centre), accessible parking and clear movement routes through the network, complemented by sustainable mobility infrastructure such as an EV charging point. This makes PAUK a pilot that can be replicated and upgraded elsewhere, because it is set up as a deliverable model rather than a one-off upgrade.
