Caprag Swimming Pools were developed as an urban regeneration project of part of the former Silax recreational centre in the Caprag district of Sisak—an area shaped by the industrial heritage of the Sisak steelworks and neglected for decades.
The project includes the reconstruction of the existing outdoor pools and associated facilities, as well as the upgrade of additional sports and public amenities, with the aim of restoring the complex as an active public asset for the city.

The intervention is defined as an integrated public sports and recreation complex, with a clear programme and seasonal capacity (615 visitors/day).
The scope includes the pools, a sunken plant room and supporting facilities (changing rooms, sanitary facilities, hospitality, etc.), along with landscaping, sports courts, a children’s playground and parking.

The project’s EU logic is straightforward: restoring the site’s public function and identity while revitalising degraded urban fabric through facilities that deliver everyday value for the community.
The project is therefore set up as urban regeneration that reactivates Caprag’s legacy, improves quality of life and the standard of public sports infrastructure, and supports wider local economic and visitor potential.

At the design level, this logic is translated into concrete, measurable spatial moves: reconfiguring the former Olympic pool into a new programme structure (a recreational pool and an attractions pool), reconstructing the children’s pool, providing new pool technology in a sunken plant room, and defining clear functional zones that enable phased implementation.
Accessibility is treated as a mandatory standard for public use and embedded through solutions for movement and stay (entries, circulation, sanitary facilities, changing cabins, sunbathing areas and parking).
