Čič beach

Concept proposal

Čič beach has been developed as a conceptual design for the revitalization of a section of Lake Čiče in Novo Čiče, spanning approximately 14,000 m², intended for recreational use and supported by catering and cultural amenities. The concept is based on returning the lake to the community as a modern public space for enjoying nature, sports, swimming, and events, with clear spatial organization and safe, legible infrastructure for daily use.

The area is organised into seven connected zones: a main loop promenade as the spine of the site, a bathing and beach zone, sports and recreation areas, a hospitality zone, cultural programmes, supporting service facilities, and parking placed at the edge so the core remains pedestrian and calm.

The EU logic behind Čič beach is “green infrastructure as a strategy”: the area is not merely aesthetically arranged, but designed as a functional system that brings a degraded landscape back into use, enhances the quality of public space, and promotes healthy, active engagement with nature. This translates into low-impact and highly adaptable solutions, relying on natural morphology, a grassed shoreline, native vegetation, and modular and reversible elements instead of massive construction.

The second core layer of this logic is inclusivity as a project fact: an accessible main promenade, an accessible ramp and sunbathing area for persons with disabilities, gender-neutral and accessible restrooms, clearly organized logistics, and peripheral “green” parking with accessibility markings, alongside the promotion of sustainable mobility (bicycles, scooters, and potential EV charging stations). This makes Čič beach a public space with a consistent standard of use, both during and outside the season.
