ABOUT THE PROJECT
Kurilovec Elementary School was designed as a new, freestanding elementary school with a three-part sports hall and outdoor facilities, representing a crucial step towards transitioning to single-shift schooling.
The school is designed for 24 classrooms (12 lower grades + 12 upper grades) accommodating 672 students, with an additional 4 special needs classrooms (PRO), totaling 692 students.
The location and organization of the complex are situated on a large plot (approx. 43,767 m²), with an emphasis on ensuring that stationary traffic does not dominate the area and that the natural terrain remains largely preserved.
The project has entered the implementation phase with an obtained building permit, and the Ministry has confirmed co-financing in the amount of 25.09 million
€.

EU ALIGNMENT AND PROJECT LOGIC
Kurilovec Elementary School was designed with a clear vision to integrate EU criteria into the very logic of the school: from capacity and programs to the utilization of space.
Therefore, the school’s program was designed from the outset with 4 special needs classrooms as a concrete step towards inclusivity, with accessibility as an obligation arising from EU and national frameworks, integrated into specific spatial solutions available to all users.
Sustainability, resilience, and inclusivity here are not an addition, but rather the way the school operates daily.
Outdoor spaces are designed as an extension of the school day: a place for movement, play, socializing, and outdoor activities, which is also used outside of classes – during weekends and school holidays.
At the same time, measures such as a green roof, rainwater collection and reuse, and mobility solutions make the school a responsible piece of infrastructure that better withstands climate extremes, reduces resource consumption, and improves the long-term quality of stay for all users.
